HUMAN INVESTMENT
Overview of Work
The engine of business is fueled by people. As such, the Fresno Business Council (FBC) focuses on projects and initiatives that help develop our future workforce at all levels. Investment in workforce education, training and preparation helps to build the foundation for professional success, creating stronger businesses and, in turn, a stronger community.
Projects & Initiatives
Career Nexus
Career Nexus serves to build a prepared workforce through paid internships, by preparing and connecting businesses with historically marginalized youth and young adults. This approach has proven to help develop community talent as the interns experience workplace culture and discover career paths.
Heartland Compass
Through Heartland Compass, we are building an employer-led platform to support employees in life and work, with the goal of stabilizing employment and families, meeting urgent needs, developing potential and creating a supportive culture.
Fresno Stewardship Foundation
The Fresno Stewardship Foundation (FSF) builds on the legacy efforts of the FBC (and now the FSF) to scale, leverage and build leadership capacity and sustain a strong culture of shared civic stewardship. As a result, this initiative is improving the economic, social, and environmental quality of life for residents throughout the Fresno area. As part of this effort, a Civic Stewardship Academy, with curriculum and case studies based on lessons learned by Fresno over the last two decades, is being established to serve as an onramp for the next generation of leaders.
Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART)
To date, CART is the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art education reform effort at the secondary level, combining rigorous academics with technical, design, process, entrepreneurial and critical thinking skills. The FBC remains involved in the outstanding efforts of CART to provide education and opportunity for our youth.
